Personal testimony-3 (Jacinth)

Once a teacher always a teacher

By  Jacinth

What If............?
Having been a teacher for a number of years now ,  I've learned more than I've claimed to teach. I've  often been floored by the  insights of some of my ten - year - olds, and most of the time, my role in the class has been, that of a catalyst. I've loved this profession from the early years of my teaching career.

I've also learned to attend to your teachings just as my students would, with pens and notebooks, and agog concentration. Let me tell you this, Bible Reading has never been the same again. Thank You.

Now back to my profession, I particularly enjoy the English Language class. It gives me immense joy to set up the test papers on Comprehension Exercises, needless to say, I'm always on the look - out for fresh materials. My pupils, like larvae, would  voraciously devour every information in the passage, and sometimes would come up with questions so bizzare, yet pertinent to the given passage. This trained me to preemptively beat them to it. Let me tell you this, the statement you may have heard, ' Sometimes the questions are more important than the answers'. , is an understatement.

After your teachings on the Book of Jonah,  I've decided to set up the Ist Chapter of Jonah as the Comprehension Excercise for my next class test.

(Here's a glimpse to a typical test paper on Comprehension)

Read the following paragraphs and answer the questions that follow :
( The 1st Chapter of Jonah)
Answer the following questions :
1. Who was Jonah ? How would you describe him in a sentence?
2. What message did he hear one day?
Did he obey ? Give reasons for your answer.
3. What happened on the ship ? Was Jonah aware of it?
4. How  did the crew find out the reason behind the fierce storm?
5. What was Jonah's suggestion to calm the storm and avoid a shipwreck? Was it followed through?
6. Give  a suitable title or heading to the passage.
 (What If......)
7. In your own words, describe what would have happened if, :
(a)   Jonah had not disobeyed God ?
(b)  Jonah had not told the truth about himself to the sailors?
(c)  Jonah had persisted in the storm?
8. In your own words, describe Jonah's experience in the belly of the huge fish?

In conclusion, it will give me great pleasure to share with them the infinite power of God to bring good out of a bad situation, with reference to the context to verse 16, and equally,  have the privilege to gain their insights on the 'What  Ifs .......?

Thank You for the opportunity of letting me learn more about the amazing love of God and His awesome power.
